KARACHI - One rangers’ soldier embraced martyrdom and six others wounded in a roadside blast near Timber Market area of Landhi 89 where a truck carrying rangers personnel was passing.
Investigation revealed that an explosive-laden motorcycle was parked near 89 Exchange area, Landhi.
The van was targeted when it was on routine patrolling. Investigators believed the explosive was fitted in a motorcycle which was further camouflaged by scrap and wooden logs. It exploded with a remote control device when the van carrying personnel reached near the motorbike.
Following the blast, heavy contingent of law enforcers, bomb disposal squad experts and ambulances of various welfare organisation reached the spot and shifted the victims to hospital. Seven rangers personnel got injured while one rangers sepoy Pandhi Khan embraced martyrdom. Investigators pointed out the bomb carrying some 3 to 4 kilogramme explosive and also carrying pellets which destroyed the rangers van.
The victim Phandi Khan was hailed from the village Kalario, distict Tharparkar.
Rangers spokesman said this cowardly act was a testimony of the effectiveness of rangers targeted operations and showed clear frustration among criminals and their collaborators. These cowardly acts cannot deter our resolve to fight crime and terrorism in the City rather these sacrifices rejuvenate and strengthen our resolve to combat criminals and terrorists.
CID OFFICIAL AMONG 3 KILLED: Three people, including an official of CID were killed in separate incident of violence here on Thursday.
An official of Crime Investigation Department was gunned down near Qalandari Chowk, Orangi Town.
The victim was identified as Iqbal alias Bala, 35, resident of MPR Colony, Orangi Town. Police said the victim was going somewhere, when some unidentified armed riders shot him dead and escaped. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The body was handed over to the family after medicolegal formalities.
Separately, a man was shot dead in Orangi Town. Police said the victim was identified as Amir, 26. He was the resident of Chishti Nagar, Orangi Town. Police said the victim was on his way when some unknown armed men targeted him.
He was shifted to ASH where he succumbed to injuries. Police has yet to be ascertained the motive behind the incident. Further investigation was underway.
A shot dead body of a man was found from Rangiwara, Lyari. Police said the victim has yet to be identified. Police said some unidentified culprits after kidnapping, tortured and shot him dead. The body was shifted to morgue after autopsy.
