High-level meeting review law and order in Lyari

KARACHI  - The obtaining law and order situation in Lyari Town came under review at a high level meeting held at Headquarters Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) here Saturday. The meeting was chaired by DG Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Maj. Gen. Liaqat Ali and attended by CCPO Karachi Waseem Ahmed, Deputy-Director General Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), DIG Police South, TPO Lyari and other senior officials of Sindh Rangers. Both DG Rangers and CCPO expressed great satisfaction over the performance of police and rangers during the recently conducted joint operation in Lyari during which they displayed a high degree of coordination and cooperation. Resolve was reaffirmed to continue to show exemplary cooperation between law enforcement agencies in future as well to eliminate crime. The general law and order situation in Lyari was described as quite satisfactory especially at the termination of first phase of the operation. During this phase, operation clean-up was launched in the areas such as Eidu Lane, Ali Muhammad Lane, Zikri Mohallah and Zikri House. As a result of this operation, the confidence of locals of the area stood restored and they have started returning to their houses. The local populace has also shown absolute confidence in the actions of both the law enforcement agencies. DG Rangers said the operation will also be conducted in other areas of the town to establish peace. Rangers pointed out that ongoing operation in Lyari is not directed against any specific group, rather this will continue till all criminals are flushed out. It said all criminals will be dealt with an iron hand without any discrimination. The DG Rangers conveyed a message to the gangsters and criminals of the area to surrender before they are dealt with stringently. DG Rangers said that to maintain lasting and durable peace the Sindh Government has also been given a few important recommendations pertaining to economic progress and uplift of the area, as it was perceived that the problems of the common man in the Town, such as availability of clean drinking water, gas, electricity and unemployment require urgent attention. He called upon the local populace to continue to extend full cooperation to LEAs for restoration of law and order, long term peace, prosperity and alleviate the Town's backwardness.
