KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that 36 CNG Buses of KMC will hit the road during current month in the Karachi, and it will be followed by mass transit programme to facilitate the common citizen of Karachi.
The CM also directed the officers concerned to launch the Inter Cities Bus Transport programme and connect all the Divisional Headquarter with capital city Karachi through modern transport facilities within two months.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting regarding intra city bus project for Karachi at CM House Karachi. Sindh Transport Minister Mumtaz Jakhrani, Advisor to CM for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana, Principal Secretary to CM Allumuddin Bullo, Secretary Transport Taha, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui and other officers attended the meeting.
The CM said that since Karachi is the largest city as well as the economic financial, Industrial and commercial hub of Pakistan but without proper mass transit system and people are experiencing transportation difficulties. He said that people are compelled to travel on the roof of buses because of shortage of busses. Keeping in view the Sindh government has conceived Mass Transit programme comprised on Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) System for Karachi
He said that three major corridors including yellow line, green line and red line have been indentified for this programme besides, other transportation programmes including bringing KMC buses on the road. The CM also formed three member committee headed by Chief Secretary Sindh with Commissioner Karachi and Administrator KMC as member to rationalise the fare structure. He said that Sindh Govt has spent Rs 40 million for re-conditioning the KMC CNG buses which were off road due to deterioration condition since long.
The chief minister directed the provincial Minister Transport and Secretary Transport to co-ordinate with the concerned company and ensures that this service should be started within given time frame.
The provincial Secretary Transport While briefing the meeting said that the KMC CNG Buses would be plied on the route from Tower to Quid- Abad through Shahrah -e- Faisal. He said that working on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) was in progress. He said that a tender for the implementation on the yellow line has been floated and good response even from companies belonging to foreign countries has been received.
