Rashid Latif Academy ground latest cricket venue

KARACHI The Rashid Latif Cricket Academy (RLCA) ground located here in the suburban neighborhood of Korangi will emerge as the latest addition to the national infrastructure when it hosts the third round of the RBS National One Day cricket Cup match between Karachi Dolphins and Quetta Bears on Sunday. Former Pakistan captain and Test wicket keeper Rashid Latif runs his popular academy at the premises which is considered the second biggest cricket facility in terms of area after National Stadium in Karachi. Commissioning of the RLCA as a national cricket venue would meet the long standing demands of cricket fans for a cricket ground of national and international level in Korangi. For the last decade, the cricket organisers of the city were speaking in favour of having a second cricket ground good enough to hold an international contest. Besides the National Stadium, the DHA cricket has hosted a Test match in the city. The cricket stadium at Pakistan Steel Mills has also held an international side match. Area wise, the RLCA is the second biggest cricket facility and it has the potential to become a truly international cricket ground. The National Stadium has taken years to evolve into an international Test level. Given the same time period and investment, the RLCA could become the second ODI or even the second Test venue in Karachi. Currently, the RLCA has a small but impressive pavilion with limited seating capacity. There are six training pitches and other facilities and a big parking lot. However, the biggest advantage of the RLCA is crowd support. In a match played there the other day in Karachi Champions league, around 10,000 strong crowd, some with families, had turned up at the venue to watch cricket. Other third round matches of the RBS championship will be played between Peshawar Panthers and Hyderabad Hawks at DHA Stadium. Summarised Score: KRL v SSGC at KRL Stadium Rawalpindi. Lahore Eagles v NBP at Diamond Club Islamabad. Karachi Zebras v HBL at KRL Stadium Rawalpindi. Faisalabad Wolves v Islamabad Leopards at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad. Lahore Lions v Rawalpindi Rams at LCCA ground Lahore. Sialkot Stallions v Abbottabad Rhinos at Jinnah Stadium Sialkot. PIA v SNGPL at Multan Cricket Stadium. Wapda v Customs at Bahawalpur Stadium.
