KARACHI - One of two Eid special trains left Karachi for Peshawar on Sunday with 12 bogies carrying around 900 passengers.
The Eid special train, which set off from the Cantt Station, was expected to reach its destination on Monday evening while the second Eid special train is scheduled Karachi for Lahore via Faisalabad at 11 am on October 14.
Moreover, Pakistan Railways (PR) keeping in view the security situation has increased security procedures for the special trains and has deployed additional police personnel. Earlier, the PR announced a reduction in the train’s fares by 40 percent on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha to facilitate the passengers who intend to travel to their hometowns for celebrations of Eid and scheduled to operate two Eid special trains from Karachi.
According to the officials, the PR to accommodate more passengers operated first special train with 12 bogies and it has departed on time carrying around 900 passengers. The PR was making efforts to attract more passengers and build up their confidence on railway by taking concrete decision for making Railways a profitable organization.
Furthermore, inter-city transporters were skinning the passenger by charging extra as thousands of people residing in Karachi started mass Eid departure to celebrate the occasion in their home towns in the interior Sindh and up country.
Transporters plying form Karachi to various town of the interior Sindh charge hundreds more rupees. Passengers traveling to Hyderabad had to pay Rs100 while for Dadu, Larkana and upper Sindh had to pay Rs200 to Rs300 more than usual fare.
The biggest bus terminal of the city from where the busses leaves for all over the country was witnessing huge rush of the passengers while passengers remained in trouble as the transporters were charging fare willfully.
Muhammad Inayat of Sukkur complained that he had purchased the one way ticket of Rs1300 despite on normal days the buses take Rs900 fare but now the transporters were fleecing the passengers and charging extra.
Due to recent increases in bus and coaches fares, people now preferred to by train and decrease in the train fares has attracted the passengers.
