Sindh DCOs asked to check price-hike

KARACHI (APP) - Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman has taken strict notice of unreasonable and exhorbitant increase in the prices of food items including milk. He directed Secretary Bureau of Supply and Prices Sindh and all DCOs to initiate action against hoarders and profiteers by ensuring the supremacy of law and ensure the provision of consumer items to people at government fixed prices. On receipt of such complaints the Chief Secretary had assigned certain officials for determining their practical authenticity. They review the prices at shops and found that shopkeepers were over-charging on the ground that it is not possible for them to sell items at government fixed rates. However, in order evade raids by price checking committees, they did display price lists. Chief Secretary directed all the officials including DCOs that besides checking by the concerned staff, they too should visit the shhips like ordinary citizens and take strict action against irregularities. He made it plain that no leniency can be shown to elements, no matter how much influential they may be, targeting people as a victim of artificially raised prices. He said that besides sale of items on fixed prices, their being qualitative should also be ensured so that over-charging, hoarding and sale of sub-standard items could be totally eliminated.
