Robbers kill cop, guard during Rs 4 million bank robbery

KARACHI - Unidentified robbers killed a policeman and security guard on offering resistance during dacoity in a local bank on Friday morning. As many as nine armed men having hand grenades barged into the bank, situated at Maripur Road within the jurisdiction of Maripur Police Station, and took the whole staff hostage at gunpoint. Later, they looted Rs 4 million within six minutes. "Five robbers entered the bank while their accomplices kept standing outside," Keamari Town SP Rao Anwar said. "They killed a security guard, Shah Alam, and a policeman, Mukhtar Hussain Mallah, deployed at the bank on offering resistance", he added. The Bandits escaped from the scene along with looted money and also took away weapons of deceased policeman and the security guard. The accused were also carrying hand grenades, Kalashnikovs and TT pistols and were riding two cars with fake registration numbers, eyewitnesses claimed. "Most of the robbers were Pakhtoons and Balochs and were wearing shalwar and kamiz", SP Anwar added. Deceased policeman hailed from Naushero Feroz and was the father of four children. Police have started investigation. Meanwhile, IG Sindh Police has paid rich tribute to the deceased policeman and expressed heartfelt grief over his death. He also promoted the deceased to next rank.
