KARACHI - The education department has found another misappropriation in scholarship funds for girls. Around 7,094 girl students of CDGK-run schools are given Rs 941 instead of Rs 1,000 through cheques during 2004-05. Thus, the deduction of Rs 59 from the total scholarship money meant for each student generated Rs 41,85,873 to the corrupt officials of the education department, The Nation learnt on Tuesday. The scholarship fund is actually to stimulate girls getting enrolled in the elementary schools run by the City Govt. But the corrupt elements in the education department usurp the funds and sabotage CDGK efforts to educate maximum number of women at grass root level. The EDO education secretariat has sent a report of the scam to the City Nazim, and to the secretary education and the chief secretary of Sindh. Sources said that the education department has directed the concerned officer Mrs. Kauser Jehan, Ex DO Education for Elementary (Female) CDGK, to justify herself as she allegedly mishandled and misappropriated the amount meant for scholarship. The initial inquiry was conducted on the complaints of the parents of girl students to the EDO secretariat, sources said. Keeping the above facts in view, it is requested that necessary action should be taken against the culprits. The EDO education Ms Fakhar Karim confirmed that a report in this regard has been sent to higher authorities.
