Bilawal announces Basant, Sindh cultural festival

KARACHI - Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday announced to celebrate Basant for the first time in Sindh in the coming season, besides organising an international Sindh cultural festival at Mohenjo Daro in February to promote history and culture of the province.
The festival would showcase music, literature and sport events.
Bilawal Zardari made this announcement during the inauguration of Sindh Festival here at Mohatta Palace on Sunday evening. Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, MNA Faryal Talpur, leaders of MQM, ANP, PML-N, parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries attended the inauguration.
Bilawal said Sindh would celebrate Basant and "Holi" festivals for first time at Seaview in the coming season.
Giving schedule of mega event, PPP chief said an international Sindh Festival would be organised at Mohenjo Daro near Larkana in Sindh in February, 2014, with variety of events including literature conference, sports festival, cultural festival and other cultural activities in the city.
He said a cultural festival city would be established where Sindh's culture and history would be exhibited. The total expenditure of the Sindh festival would be Rs2 billion, which would be arranged through tickets and contribution of philanthropists.
Criticising PML-N's Punjab government for spending Rs8billion from government exchequer on sport festival this year, Bilawal said not a single penny would be spent on Sindh cultural festival from Sindh government’s exchequer.
Bilawal said he felt proud of being the son of Sindh that representd a 5000-year-old civilization based on tolerance, love and brotherhood. He observed that the Talibanisation and terrorists had tarnished peace and culture-loving image of the country. He added that international events would also be held in Karachi.
Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari on this occasion urged steps for preserving the history and archeological sites of Mohenjo Daro.
