Protests against prolonged loadshedding continue

KARACHI - The ongoing power crisis deepened further Wednesday in the city as the demand and supply gap is increasing over the closre of three units of Bin Qasim Power Plant and cut off supply from KANNUP. The prolonged power outage irked the Karachiites and people launched protest against KESC in several areas. They burnt KESC customers centre in Shah Faisal Colony in protest over more than 12-hour long power outage due to some underground cable fault. The residents of Shah Faisal Colony launched protest against unannounced loadshedding and attacked the customers centre Khokar Club Shah Faisal Malir Zone1and and blazed the watchman room. They also burnt tyres in Suhrab Goth and blocked national highway while inhabitants of Sachal and Safoora Goth also protested against the power outage and burnt tyres on a road near Gulistan-e-Johar Block-18. In Federal B Area, the residents were suffering from power outage since morning which forced the people to protest against power outage and attack on the Power House. Angry people burnt the tires on the road and also burnt the power-house while police baton charged the protestors to disperse them. Similar situation occurred in Sadar, where hundreds of shopkeepers protested against prolonged power outage on Abdullah Haroon Road. They burnt old furniture and tyres on the road and blocked the traffic. They also chanted slogan against KESC and the government in fornt of KESC head office near Zainab Market. In Malir, angry mob continued their protest on third day as they have been depriving of the power since last three days. The residents of Malir-15, Jaffer-e-Tayaar Society burnt the tires and old furniture near Malir-15 bus stop and blocked the national highway for several hours. Heavy contingency of police reached at the spot and used tear gas to disburse the protestor. In New Karachi, residents of Bilal Colony Sector hysterically appeared on the road due to the 12 to 13 hours long load shedding in the area and burnt the tires and old furniture on the road and blocked the road.
