Rs 46m relief sent to Balochistan quake victims

KARACHI - The Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) has launched a Humanitarian Response Programme (HRP) to provide relief to the victims of earthquake in Balochistan. The said volunteer organization has distributed relief items of Rs 46 million to the victims. According to Ellahi Bakhsh Baloch, a senior official of SPO-Karachi Office, earthquake on October 29 caused massive disaster in some parts of Balochistan. Apart from death toll, round 8,000 houses completely have destroyed for which about 50,000 people had become homeless. Mostly women and children were killed and more than 5,000 injured when a severe intensity earthquake struck Ziarat, and Pishin districts of Balochistan. Hundreds of mud houses were razed to the ground and people were forced to stay under the open sky in severe cold. So far as, total 1,200 tents, 4,800 blankets and 200 food packages according to the requirements of Sphere standard (universally agreed standard for disasters situations) which includes 80 Kg wheat, 40 Kg rice, 10 liters cooking oil, 7 Kg pulses, 7 Kg sugar, 2 Kg dry milk, 1 Kg tea, salt, match box, 4 soaps, sweaters, warm shawls and set of hygiene kits for each family was distributed by SPO Balochistan with the support of CWS-P/A in union council Kawas of district Ziarat and Khanozai of Pishin. Baloch also told that SPO volunteers had engaged itself in the affected areas since the very first day. It was not difficult to identify the affectees and needy people. He added that the SPO trained community based organizations to play vital and active role. There is a dire need to go for rehabilitation and reconstruction. In this regard, all the concerned agencies are requested to kindly consider the local living trends and values for their future reconstruction activities. It is also demanded that government should announce reconstruction package as soon as possible, and should right-off all kind of agricultural loans on effected people of the area because they are not in positions to repay their outstanding loans any more. 67 Pakistanis from Indian Jails to arrive home today  Chairman Ansar Burney Trust and former Federal Minister for Human Rights, Ansar Burney, has said that another batch of 67 Pakistani prisoners including women and children will be released from Indian Jails and arrive back home Wednesday. Last week Indian Government had released 30 Pakistani prisoners including two women from Indian Jails and sent them back to Pakistan through Wagah Boarder. Ansar Burney recently visited India twice and met Indian Home Minister, Shivraj Patel, Foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon, Leader of opposition L. K. Advani and other Indian high officials in the government to request for an early release of those Pakistanis who have already completed their jail terms but not released since a long time. Ansar Burney said in this regard the Ansar Burney Trust is highly grateful to the Indian President Shri Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Shri Dr. Manmohan Singh, Home Minister, Shivraj Patel, Foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon, Opposition Leader Mr. L. K. Advani and Satyabrata Pal the Indian High Commissioner at Islamabad as well as those who fully supported this human rights cause. Ansar Burney said he is also trying to get released the families who were arrested on Monabao and Attari boarders on visa tempering.  These are almost 100 Pakistanis including women and children from ages 72 years to 2 years old. They are in the prisons since last 8 months to two years.  These Pakistani families were arrested because the agents cheated them.
