KARACHI - Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) will fully participate in the next local government elections and field candidates across the Punjab province.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain made this announcement while addressing a gathering of the party workers in Multan and Lahore via telephone on Friday.
He asked the people of Punjab to rise against the corrupt political system and play their role in eliminating feudalism and capitalism. He said MQM would field its candidates in every district and Tehsil of Punjab. He directed the Punjab MQM organising committee members and workers to prepare for the next local body elections.
Altaf said: “If we don’t fight back to save the country, the terrorists and extremists will strengthen their grip on Pakistan.” He urged the people of Punjab to join MQM which truly represented the middle class of the country. He said that MQM was the only political party which could steer the country out of the crises.
Meanwhile, MQM Coordination Committee has inducted three more members in its fold and the party chief has endorsed the decision. The newly inducted members are Tauseef Khanzada, Kaif-ul-Wara and Shakir Ali.
Recalling that an All-Party Conference held on Sept 9 with a view to restoring peace had already decided with a consensus to hold dialogue with the Taliban then one should wait for some time.
He said that at a time when the country was passing through a critical juncture and there was wave of terrorism, its economy was on the verge of collapse, value of rupee against dollar was declining rapidly and facing several other challenges, it was necessary upon all not to put the writ of the government and the armed forces institutions at stake.
Felicitating the participants on the auspicious occasion of Eidul Azha, the MQM chief said that despite trying circumstances, the role played by unknown workers, sympathisers, mothers, sisters, daughters and elders in collecting hides of sacrificial animals was highly commendable.
Except for unfortunate incident in which Khyber Pakhtunkhwa law minister and several other people lost their lives and a girls’ school was bombarded, the overall law and order situation in the country’s four provinces remained considerably better as compared to previous years, he said and added that “all the credit for this goes to the administration, Rangers, police and other law-enforcement agencies for which he is highly thankful to Rangers DG, DIGs, officers and other personnel of law-enforcement and security agencies.”
He also lauded the efforts of KMC officers for making better arrangements for the lifting and disposing of offal of sacrificial animals.
PPP TO WIN 2018 POLLS: SHARJEEL
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that opponents have always criticised PPP, but they must have courage to bear criticism.
In a statement here on Friday, Sharjeel said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had announced to compete in the election 2018. PPP would face all opponents in the election 2018 and would emerge victorious. He added PPP was working for the prosperity of the people and solving their problems.
Sharjeel said no other political party could present the example of sacrifices the PPP had offered. Due to the sacrifices of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, the country was running on the path of democracy and Pakistan became an atomic power.
“Pakistan People’s Party is the only political party which has roots and support of the people of all the four provinces. The PPP leaders had sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy,” he concluded.
