Political leaders flay attack on security forces convoy in Bannu

PPP, PTI, MQM ask government to rethink strategy

KARACHI  - Political leaders have strongly condemned Taliban’s attack on security forces convoy in Bannu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province on Sunday, resulting in martyrdom of at least 22 security men and injuries to many others.
PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that the narrators of ‘peace talks' have blood on their hands.
MQM chief urged government to rethink over the strategy for dealing with militancy while PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi remarked that Government's non-serious policy has put the masses into a state of confusion. Bilawal Bhutto in a statement stated that our soldiers were being killed, our patriotic politicians were being mowed down and almost every institution and segment of our society is being attacked barring the scared and apologetic ostriches.
“From mosques to schools, hospitals to churches, media houses to military cantonments, prisons to Tableeghi Markaz, these beasts are attacking everything that protects and upholds the flag of Islam and Pakistan,” he said stressing entire nation needs to rise up against these deadly criminals, anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan elements and finish them off before they annihilate all of us.
Bilawal said those who have refused to recognise TTP as the enemy and perpetuate the myth of 'peace talks' have blood on their hands.  He expressed sympathies with the bereaved families of soldiers.
In a statement on Sunday, MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the attack and said that with the acceptance of responsibility of the blast by the TTP, it had become imperative that rethink the strategy for dealing with militancy and terrorism. He said that he had been crying hoarse, demanding Federal government and heads of the Armed Forces to devise a concrete strategy as indecisiveness would result in civilian casualties besides losses to the Armed Forces.
He said that a decision about holding the negotiations with the Taliban or following any other line of action should be taken without further delay.
Continuous killing of the security forces would create feeling of despondency in the forces, Altaf added.
Expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families of the martyred, he prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls. Senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi condemned Taliban for carrying out a deadly bomb attack on security forces in Bannu.
Talking to the media men after party meeting at a local hotel in Karachi, he said“If Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack on security forces convoy we condemn them,” he said.
Talking about the peace talks with Taliban, Qureshi said that government should take all the political parties into confidence about the progress made on peace talks ,adding, that non-serious policy of government has put the nation and political leadership into a state of confusion.
