Attacker chosen by ballot before strike on Justice Baqar

KARACHI - The terror suspects, who had ambushed the security convoy of Sindh High Court Justice Maqbool Baqar, have revealed they had used balloting process to pick name of the attacker. “Abu Bakkar was the name that surfaced through the balloting for the attack on Justice Baqar,” said suspect Muhammad Muavia.
Abu Bakkar and Muhammad Muavia, who have been handed over to CID Police on physical remand till July 28, were presented before media on Friday. They confessed to their crime and said they had chalked out the terror attack on Justice Baqar at the resident of Bashir Leghari, another accused who succumbed to injuries he had sustained during encounter with law enforcing agencies a couple of days ago.
Abu Bakkar said mastermind Bashir Leghari had also sent him an SMS of ‘shadi mubarrak’ after the blast which was successfully carried out. He said they had used a stolen motorcycle to carryout the blast. “Explosives were planted in lights, indicators, oil tank and silencer of the motorcycle that was taken to the spot in a rickshaw,” they further revealed.  They said they, being directed by Qari Bashir, had also targeted Advocate Kausar Saqlain and his two sons in Kemari.
District South police in collaboration with intelligence agency had arrested alleged master mind Basher Ahmed Leghari along with his son Mavia Leghari and Abu Bakkar during a raid at their hideout in Surjani locality on Wednesday. During the raid, the alleged mastermind received bullet injury in his abdomen, later succumbed to his injuries during the treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
However, sources privy to the matter has added that police investigators have arrested four more suspects those were allegedly involved in the case of the attack.
On the other side, the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, formerly known as outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan also held a meeting with the senior police officials on Thursday and warned that they would not bury their slain leader Bashir Leghari until the law enforcers released their detained companions; however, after the confessions of the suspects into the media, the ASWJ stepped back.
TERROR SUSPECT DIES OF ‘TORTURE’
A terror suspect namely Bilal alias Malla died at the Sachal Police Station here but the Rangers and police are busy laying blame on each other. Bilal was detained under suspicion of being involved in an attack on the Rangers two days ago. Sources confirmed that the accused Bilal was brought to the Sachal Police Station with severe injuries which led to his death in the lock-up. Police claimed that Bilal along with three others was brought to the station by Rangers officials. The DIG East has ordered an investigation into the incident.
SSP investigation Abbas Rizvi told that an inquiry has been initiated about to probe his death, especially on the basis of the postmortem report. He added that he could not comment until the process of the investigation completed, “but I am sure that police have not even touched Bilal in sense of torture.”
According to the medical report, the accused was tortured 36 hours prior to his death by being electrocuted and beaten with steel rods. A spokesman for the Rangers has claimed that Bilal along with other accused had been handed over safe and sound to the police on July 17.
In another incident, a man sustained injuries in a low-intensity explosion at Saddar area. Police said two unidentified armed men on motorcycle threw explosives outside a furniture shop. A passer-by namely Sabtain sustained injuries. He was hurried to Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment where his condition is reported to be stable.
The initial investigation suggested the attack was carried out by extortionists as the furniture shop owner had denied paying money. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
