Citizen's killing in fake encounter remains mysterious

KARACHI - The alleged police encounter, which claimed an innocent live in Baldia town about one month ago, continues to remain a mystery to this day and high officials seem reluctant to probe into the case. As per report, a police party opened fire on a vehicle when it did not stop on signal and killed a man, Latif Shah. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Baldia Police Station on October 20 at Hub River road, Swat Colony. But local resident strongly denied the claims of the police regarding the involvement of the deceased in any crime and his killing in a police encounter. The said that deceased Latif Shah along with his friend was on the way to Saeedabad where police the Keamari Town police, headed by SP Rao Anwar, opened indiscriminate fire on him. As a result, he died on the spot and, later, police declared him a criminal in order to thwart any legal action against the concerned officials. Mohammad Umar, a relative of the deceased told TheNation that they also submitted a petition against the false encounter, in which the court has issued directive the police high-ups to probe into the case and submit report till December 2. He said the police had refused to register a case against their colleagues. He said the killing of Latif in a fake encounter is still shrouded in mystery even after the passing of one whole month. Deceased's relatives and scores of local residents have appealed to the concerned high-ups to order a probe in the brutal incident. "We are not demanding immediate arrest of the policemen involved and impartial probe into the fake encounter", Umar said.
