Power supply from Bin Qasim plant suspended

KARACHI - The sufferings of the citizens have been increased as the Unit-3 of Bin Qasim power plant tripped on Friday due to which the City faces 120-megawatt of power shortage. It is to be noted that 2455MW is the daily requirement of the City, but KESC has failed to meet this regular demand which leads to frequent unscheduled power shutdown. KESC is doing 4-6 hours of loadshedding on rotational basis. Many areas have been badly affected due to this loadshedding, leading to protests by these areas' residents. Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, PECHS, Malir, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad and other areas of different regions are sharing the burden of this current power failure. Sources disclosed that KESC is producing electricity through natural gas and shortage of gas has also affected the power generating capability of KESC. More to add to consumers' miseries, the NEPRA has allowed KESC to raise electricity charges due to the increasing oil prices. Despite government's consistence assurance of providing relief to the citizens, it remains uncertain.  This whole situation has left the citizens in great distress and annoyance. Public is now demanding the government that the situation should be resolved before the start of Ramazan.
