NAB official among 12 killed in Karachi violence

KARACHI - At least 12 people including a deputy superintendent of police currently on deputation in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh as an assistant director were killed in separate acts of violence and encounter here in the provincial metropolis on Saturday.
As per details, a DSP currently on deputation in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh as an assistant director and a passerby minor were shot dead at a hotel located at Sharfabad locality in the jurisdiction of New Town Police Station. DSP Nasir Lodhi told The Nation that the deceased were DSP Agha Jamil Ahmed, and a child Faizan Ahmed. The officer said the DSP was taking its meal at Malik Niazi Hotel when two unidentified armed riders came close to him and sprayed bullets on him before managing their escape from the scene. He said deceased sustained multiple bullet wounds while the child also sustained a bullet wound. Both were shifted to a private hospital for medical treatment where doctor pronounced them dead. The bodies were moved to JPMC for autopsy. Lodhi further said that apparently it was a part of current wave of target killing of the security men, a reaction of targeted operation against criminals in the city by law enforcers.
Similarly, a police constable, Naeemuddin, 38, was shot dead in Korangi area in the limits of Zaman Town Police Station. Police said the deceased was deployed at the police station as munshi on night duty. The deceased was on his way to police station from his home when unidentified armed riders targeted him.
Separately, a man, Shujaat Hussain, 36, was gunned down while another Toufeeq Hussain sustained bullet injuries in a targeted attack in Rizvia Society in the jurisdiction of Rizvia Police Station.
Police said both victims were sitting outside a general store owned by Shujaat where armed pillion riders opened fire on them and fled from the scene. Police transported them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctor pronounced Shujaat dead.
An owner of a general store was gunned down in Sector-11, New Karachi in the limits of New Karachi Police Station. Police said the deceased, Haroon Raees, 30, was sitting at his shop when unidentified armed riders shot and killed him.
 Police suspect that the man was killed over refusing extortion money. Further investigation was underway.
In Chakiwara police limits, a man, Ghulam Shabbir, was shot dead at Mirza Adam Khan Road. Police said the deceased was on his way when two armed riders shot him twice and managed escaped. Police suspect that personal enmity was the motive behind murder.
Pak Colony police found a body of a man near Bara Board. The body was shifted to hospital for autopsy and later moved to morgue for identification. Police believe that the victim was poisoned to death, however, further investigation was underway.
In the same police jurisdiction, another bullet-riddled body of a young man was found from the Mewa Shah graveyard. Police shifted the body to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy where deceased was identified as Mujahid, a resident of Garden locality. Police said that unidentified assailants had shot the man dead after kidnapping him.    
A body with torture marks was found from Akber Road in the precincts of Sher Shah Police Station. The deceased was identified as Jawwad Hussain, 15. Police said the deceased was missing from Friday night.

Four alleged Lyari’s gangsters were killed in two separate encounters with police and Rangers in different parts of Lyari on Saturday.
Sources said three men allegedly associated with Faisal Pathan group of Lyari gang were killed in cross firing with police and Rangers at Aath Chowk area of Lyari in the limits of Kalakot Police Station. Police said Rangers and police personnel raided the said place on a tip off. The gangsters returned fire on the law enforcers. However, the alleged gangsters sustained bullet wounds in cross fire and died on the spot. Law enforces claimed to have recovered walkie talkie sets, hand-grenades and weapons from the possession of gangsters. The gangsters were identified as Bilal alias Bilawal, Abid and Akbar alias Sethi.
Separately, police arrested a suspect namely Hussain alias Abuzar in injured condition during a raid at Mirza Adam Khan Road in the limits of Chakiwara police station. The suspect got serious injuries in an encounter and later arrested by law enforcers but on way to hospital he died. The suspect was associated with Lyari Gang linked with Uzair Baloch group. The police and Rangers officials were busy and could not be contacted for comments on the encounters.
