PML-N wants new governor in Sindh

KARACHI - With MQM’s joining of the PPP government, the provincial leaders of PML-N have strongly recommended to the party’s central leadership to replace the existing longest serving Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad with new nominee from the party, it emerged here on Thursday.
Even, the PML-N Sindh leaders, in strong words, suggested to their party’s federal government to bring their own governor in the province with emergence of new political alliance of MQM and PPP.
In this regard, PML-N’s parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly, Irfanullah Marwat has clearly demanded replacing the existing Sindh governor who was nominated by the MQM during Musharraf regime.
“If party wants to remain alive in the province, it must bring their own governor immediately,” he demanded from the central leadership of the party. He predicted that with MQM’s joining the PPP’s government, the stay of Dr Ishratul Ebad in Governor House would end soon.
PML-N leader further said if the party did not bring its governor in the province, it would face political problems in Sindh.
Though, the PML-N, before coming in the government, had demanded to remove the governors of all the four provinces appointed on political basis. But after coming in the power on May 11, 2013 elections, the PML-N did not replace the governor for long time in the four provinces.
The governors in Punjab and KPK were replaced recently. After the resignation of Zulfiqar Magsi, the federal government brought Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami party’s nominee as governor in Balochistan. But there are no indications seen from the PML-N’s federal government to change the Sindh governor for long time.
However, with the new political situation, the pressure is mounted on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from the party’s provincial cadre to replace the existing governor with party’s own nominee as Sindh governor.
