Rs4.5m bank heist in port city

KARACHI - A group of robbers looted Rs4.5 million from the Orangi Town branch of Bank Islami on Monday.
Seven robbers barged into the bank 12:30pm and held the staff members and customers hostage at gunpoint. They snatched the weapons from the two security guards of the bank. They also took the DVR system, installed at the bank, away with them while fleeing.
Police said the robbers clad in shalwar kameez were speaking Pashto language. They took five minutes to complete their swift operation.
Orangi Division SP Malik Ehsan said the culprits rapidly carried out the robbery and no one in the bank could understand what was going to happen as they entered the bank one by one.
He said though the robbers had taken the DVR system away with them, police investigators were still trying to get the record of footages as the branch was linked to the bank’s head office.
SP Ehsan further said that the robbers while fleeing also took a TT pistol of one guard away with them however left the rifle from another security guard.
It is pertinent to mention here that since the start of the year at least five banks have been looted by the armed bandits so far in different areas of the city including Azizabad, Korangi, Napier and North Nazimabad areas, however, the police investigators remained fail to probe any of the bank heist and also not succeed to make the arrest of any of culprits behind these robberies.
