Eight alleged extortionists arrested

KARACHI - Police claimed to have apprehended eight men allegedly involved in extortion cases on Saturday.
The arrested men included Rehman Qureshi alias Imran, Abid alias Kallu, Ramiz alias Mullah Qureshi, Muhammad Faisal Qureshi, Muhammad Amir alias Aapa, Shahbaz alias Shera, Shoaib and Saleem. Their absconding associates included Bholo Qureshi, Tajuddin, Qadeer and Akbar.  Police also claimed to have recovered four hand grenades, seven pistols, one Kalashnikov and six kilogrammes of hashish.
The arrests were disclosed on Saturday at a press conference held at the CIA Centre in Saddar. Addressing the the media, Special Investigation Unit chief SSP Shahjahan Khan said that the police arrested them during two different raids in parts of Korangi Industrial Area. He said that the group was operating in Karachi since seven years. The group has no affiliation with any party. He said that the police was also looking for the group’s ringleader Bholo Qureshi. The group has been involved in several cases of extortion in different parts of the city and has also been killed three people and wounded over 15. He said that the raids for the arrest of their absconding associates were being carried out while the cases against the arrested were registered.
