Three extortionists arrested

KARACHI - The police on Wednesday arrested three persons for forcibly demanding money from a local industrialist. Accused Ameerullah, Saeed Mehsud and Tariq Mehsud, the residents of Block-22, Madina Colony, were arrested red-handed by Federal 'B' Industrial Area police while forcing the industrialist to extort money, said Gulberg Town SP Allauddin Abbasi. He said the culprits claimed themselves members of the Awami National Party (ANP) but the concerned leadership has strongly denied their affiliation with the party. SHO Javed Sikander said the criminals had also been nabbed twice under similar charges. After their arrest, score of the people gathered at Sohrab Goth and chanted slogans against the police demanded immediate release of the criminals. They also pelted stones on the passing vehicles, the SHO said and added that heavy contingents of law enforcers, however, arrived on the spot and dispersed the protestors peacefully. Police have registered a case against the culprits.
