KARACHI - A total of Rs4 million was looted from two separate branches of private banks located in Landhi and Ferozabad areas here on Wednesday.
According to details, the first bank robbery was occurred in a private bank branch situated in Landhi area where a five-member group of robbers barged into the bank and made the security guards and other staff hostage on gunpoint. They snatched the weapons from the security guards and warned the bank staff of dire consequences if they offered any resistance. Police said the robbers stormed the bank at around 10am and later managed to escape after completing their swift operation within 15 minutes. After being informed, police rushed to the site but could do nothing as the culprits had escaped before their arrival.
At least five armed culprits were behind the robbery. They came in a car and motorcycles. Police took the CCTV footage record in possession and were trying to trace out the culprits. Police said robbers managed to take away Rs33,89,950 and a case has been registered on the complaint of bank manager.
After few hours, second bank robbery was occurred in another bank situated near Noorani Chowrangi. Some armed men entered the bank at around 2:37pm and held three security guards, staff members and customers hostage on gunpoint.
Police said the robbers completed their swift operation within three minutes. They had sophisticated weapons even they had ball bombs in their hands to scare the people present at the bank.
According to the SHO Orangzaib Khattak the armed men had arrived at the bank on a white Suzuki Mehran car and looted Rs890,000. They also took the CCTV cameras installed at the bank away with them while fleeing. He said a case had been registered against unidentified persons on behalf of the bank manager.
Police officials said both the robberies were carried out by separate groups of armed robbers. Further investigation was underway.
