KMC facing financial crunch, says administrator
 
 
 

karachi - The administrator for Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has said that KMC was facing financial crunch but the problems of the industrial zones would be resolved soon with the cooperation of the industrialists.
He further said that the foundation and structure of Jam Sadiq Bridge is strong and stable with no risk ,however, desk slab and expansion joints would be changed on immediate basis whereas a part underneath the bridge needs to be repaired due to humidity.
“Physical survey of the bridge has been started while removal of encroachments alongwith cleanliness, and other problems of Korangi Industrial Area would be carried out on priority basis,” he said. He said this during a visit to the bridge and luncheon party of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry where he was accompanied by Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro and other officers.
He said that due to heavy traffic on Jam Sadiq Bridge its gradual repairing was necessary. Repairing works here have not been done since long due to which people especially businessmen had questions in their minds, he added. He said that bridges and flyovers were constructed for a period of 100 years. The bridges constructed in last 50 years were in use today .therefore, structure of Jam Sadiq Bridge could not be feeble, he said.
He said that Jam Sadiq Bridge was constructed in 1992 and this bridge needs repairing for which relevant officers have been directed to prepare PC-I.
He said that the KMC was facing financial crunch but minor problems could be resolved with mutual cooperation. We will have to work together and play our role for betterment of the City, he added.
On this occasion the Head of KATI S.M Muneer and the President of KATI Syed Farrukh Mazhar also spoke and assured for providing their cooperation.
