JI demands withdrawal of pillion riding ban

KARACHI - The Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded the provincial government to take back its decision regarding imposing ban on pillion riding in Karachi.
Condemning the Sindh governments’ decision, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Sunday termed it an illogical and useless step. He said that the pilling riding ban would directly affect around two million people belonging to the middle and lower class. He said that the government, instead of controlling criminal activities, is taking anti-public decisions.
The JI leader said that the provincial government had imposed ban on pillion riding in the past as well; however, it could not control the ongoing criminal activities in the city. “If the govt does not ensure provision of basic facilities to the people, then it should refrain itself from taking anti-people decisions,” he urged.
Citing the example of deteriorated law and order situation in Quetta, Hafiz Naeem said that the authorities concerned had imposed ban on pillion riding for the last many years, but failed to stop terror acts in the city. He further demanded the govt to take serious steps to maintain law and order in Karachi.
