Karachi (PPI) - A Councilor of Union Council-9 and MQM activist, Jamshed Town, Zaffar Ahmed, 44 was gunned down while a personnel of law enforcing agency, 26-years-old Abdul Rasheed was critically injured in Lines Area in an ambush in the jurisdiction of Brigade police station early Monday morning. SHO Brigade Aslam Joyo told PPI that the councillor had came here to meet some relatives near the residential area of LEAs, when some unidentified gunman opened fire on him. He said when police reached to scene, councillor Zafar Ahmed had already succumbed to injuries while the LEA personnel was in critical condition, who was immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi from where he was rushed to PNS Shifa Hospital for treatment. The SHO further said it seemed that the murder of councillor was target killed, while it is premature to say that the LEA man was also targeted or he came under fire accidentally. He said further investigation has already initiated. The medico-legal officer of the Civil Hospital said that Zafar Ahmed received many bullets in his head and body and died before reaching hospital. He said LEA man Abdul Rasheed received two bullets and shifted to PNS Shifa Hospital. Police arrest ring leader of dacoit gang Investigation Police Zaman Town arrested a ring leader of Bengali dacoit gang after an encounter and recovered weapons from his possession, while his three accomplices managed to flee. The accused, Abdul Mannan alias Bengali dacoit, was involved in many kidnapping, extortion, robbery and murder cases. On the directive of SSP Investigation Zone East II Abdus Salam Sheikh and in the supervision of SPO Korangi Shah Nawaz Khan, SIO Investigation Zaman Town Inspector Syed Mumtaz Ali along with sub inspector Ali Murad raided on a tip-off at a hideout in Korangi and after encounter arrested ring leader Abdul Mannan and recovered 3 TT pistols, 30 bullet and 3 magazines from his possessions, while his three accomplices Alam, Yasin and another accused managed to escape. The arrested accused is termed a hardened criminal, wanted to police in different cases of murder, murder attempts, abduction, extortion, robbery and cell phone snatching. He had killed a man, Samad, during robbery on April 09. He had also killed an informer of police, Sharafat, in 2005.
