Karachi police use water cannon to disperse nurses

Police on Wednesday used water cannon and tear gas shells against nurses protesting outside the Karachi Press Club for rise in their salaries.
Protesting nurses and students from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, National Institute of Child Health, Civil Hospital Karachi, Lyari General Hospital, Korangi Government Hospital and the Sindh Services Hospital, backed by some medical association leaders, gathered outside the Karachi Press Club and held march towards Governor House.
Police used baton-charged and water cannon against the protestors at Fohara Chowk near the press club and also arrested many demonstrators.
The protesting nurses were demanding better pay structures in the wake of neck-breaking inflation and were heading towards the Governor’s House when police attacked them.
Several including three nurses were also arrested during the course of protest. The nurses dispersed after police brutality.
