2 ASWJ leaders killed in drive-by shooting

KARACHI - Two local leaders of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat were gunned down in drive-by shooting in Zia Colony in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Monday. The deceased were identified as Mufti Zeeshan and Danish alias Bihari. DSP Pervez Iqbal Bhatti said armed motorcyclists targeted the victims shortly after they came outside from a mosque after offering Isha prayers. Police said victim Mufti Zeeshan was the resident of New Karachi while Danish was the resident of FC Area, Liaquatabad. Police shifted them to a private hospital where they succumbed to injuries. Later they were shifted to JPMC for legal formalities.ASWJ spokesman Maulana Taj Hanfi confirmed that both the victims were the local leaders of ASWJ. He demanded the government to arrest the culprits involved. Initially police believed that sectarian killing was the motive behind the incident. Tension engulfed several areas including Liaquatabad, Ayesha Manzil and its surrounding areas while some unidentified armed men resorted to aerial firing. All major shops and markets were following the firing. No case was registered till filing of the report.In another incident, a doctor was shot dead in his clinic in Millat Colony, Orangi Town in Iqbal Market police precincts. The incident took place at sector 11½ Orangi Town Millat Colony where at least three armed men came on two motorcycles and barged into the clinic and opened fire. Resultantly 45-year-old doctor Tariq Ashrafi received bullet injuries and died on the spot. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medicolegal formalities. SHO Matiullah said the victim was running his clinic in the same area where he resided. Police believed personal enmity behind the incident.Separately a young man was shot dead near Clifton underpass in the limits of Clifton police station. The incident took place at Clifton block 8 near Mehran Shopping Centre where unidentified men reached on motorcycles and opened fire on him, resultantly he received four bullets. Police shifted him to JPMC where he succumbed to injuries. SHO Asif Jakhrani said the victim was the resident of Delhi Colony, Clifton. He was running a garment shop in Clifton area. Police detained his friend Sami while further investigation was in process.A youth was shot dead at Nappier Road near Jodia Bazaar in the jurisdiction of Kharadar police station. DSP Zafar Ali Shah said that the incident took place at Nappier Road near Jodia Bazaar where a young man namely Imran was standing when some unidentified culprits came and opened fire on him. He received serious bullet injuries and died on the spot. He said that the victim was the resident of the same area and was nominated in the murder case of Adil who was killed few months back which might be the motive behind his killing. Police initiated probe into the case. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital and later handed over to his family.
