KARACHI - The National Institute of Blood Diseases (NIBD) has established a first ever Pediatrics Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and Genomic Department of the country.
Pakistan Baitul Mal Managing Director Barrister Abid Waheed Shaikh on Thursday inaugurated the Pediatrics Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and Genomic Department at NIBD.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Barrister Abid Waheed has announced that the Pakistan Baitul Mal will provide the facility of bone marrow transplant to 100 children.
Director Medical Services of Pakistan Baitul Mal Dr Javed Iqbal, Director Sindh Dr Adnan Majeed, Director NIBD Dr Tahir Sultan Shamsi, Organiser NIBD Bone Marrow Transplant Dr Saqib Hussain Ansari and others were also present on the occasion.
Barrister Abid Waheed further said that the Pakistan Baitul Mal will provide financial assistance to the NIBD in procedure of bone marrow transplant.
He further said that the establishment of Genomic Department in NIBD was a revolutionary step in the world of medical.
On the occasion, Barrister Abid Shaikh has appealed the Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister to provide resources and allocated space to NIBD for better facilitation of bone marrow transplant procedures.
Talking to media, Dr Tahir Sultan Shamsi said that the NIBD will provide the facility of diagnosis the genetic related diseases before time at the Genomic Department, adding that the patients of cancers and other diseases would be treated through proper medicines at NIBD.
500 successful bone marrow transplant of the children have been conducted by NIBD, while 3000 children in a year being suffered in bone marrow diseases.
