LAHORE As many as 30 couple were married in a mass marriage ceremony held under the aegis of Women Social Service Organisation (WSSO) at a local marriage hall near Qaddafi Stadium at Ferozpur Road on Saturday. Senator and President Hajveri Foundation Ishaq Dar sponsored the ceremony and he was also the chief guest on this occasion. Editor-in-Chief The Nation Majid Nizami and a large number of people belonging to different stratum of society, members of Executive Committee of WSSO besides the relatives of the couples also attended the ceremony. Senator Ishaq Dar also announced Rs 1 million for poor couples. The organisers also arranged one dish food for about 500 peoples who attended the ceremony. President WSSO Shamim Aftab Farrukh said on the occasion that their organisation was arranging such mass marriage ceremonies every year, which were sponsored by Senator Ishaq Dar. She said main objective of arranging such ceremonies was to support such poor families and parents who were unable to arrange marriages of their daughters. She further said their organisations also arrange dowry articles for the poor girls on the occasion of marriage ceremonies comprising of almost all essential articles. Such traditions of arranging mass marriages not only can help the poor families but also can prove helpful in eliminating some social iniquity such as unevenness in the society, she concluded. Body found An unidentified dead body of woman was found from Manawan police limits here Sunday, police official said. He said the incident came to light when a passerby informed police about the presence of a dead body in canal. Police soon after getting information arrived at the scene and shifted the body to city morgue for autopsy. Police said the deceased woman was strangled to death, as there were visible marks of rope on her neck. Police had registered a case against unknown killers. Further investigations were underway.
