LHC sustains objection of registrar office

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sustained objection of the Registrar office on a petition seeking contempt proceedings against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Ministers of the four provinces for not starting construction of Kalabagh Dam.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the LHC while hearing the case, also dismissed the petition and sustained objection raised by the Registrar office.
Advocate Feroze Shah Gillani had filed the petition and submitted that the high court had directed the government to convene a meeting of Council of Common Interest (CII) on the construction of the KBD but the order was ignored by the authorities concerned.
The petitioner had asked the court to initiate contempt proceedings against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
After hearing the arguments, the CJ dismissed the petition for being non-maintainable. Earlier, the Registrar Office had objected over the petition stating that it was not maintainable.
Meanwhile, Justice Zafarullah Khakwani of the LHC expressed displeasure over non-appearance of Lahore DCO and non-production of a report pertaining to restoration of a women officer.
Saira Zafar, an employee of Local Government, filed the petition and submitted that she was working in grade-17 as permanent employee and was transferred to town hall in 2009 but she was not given charge of any post.
Later, her salary was withheld and she was terminated without issuing any show-cause notice. She said the court orders restored her but the DCO Javed Qazi was not implementing it. She requested for contempt proceeding against the DCO.
A law officer presented another order of DCO about termination of officer.
On it, the court remarked that DCO was committing double contempt pf court.
The court adjourned hearing for two weeks and directed DCO to implement court’s earlier order.
