LAHORE - The Young Doctors Association (YDA) continued protest at Ferozepur Road on Saturday to press for the demand for restoration of 199 seats of house officers at different hospitals in the province.
YDA doctors and affected house officers staged a sit-in outside Lahore General Hospital, causing massive traffic jam. One of the protesting lady doctors fell unconscious due to hot and humid weather and she was brought to emergency of the hospital.
YDA spokesman Dr Khurram Shahzad said the government was terminating doctors instead of working on service structure as promised by the Punjab chief minister. He said the YDA has already given schedule of protests at different hospitals.
He said protest would continue till restoration of 199 seats of house officers. Meanwhile, YDA delegation comprising Dr Javed Aheer, Dr Amer Bandesha, Dr Rai, Dr Usman and Dr Shabbir called on the health secretary and apprised him about the viewpoint of medical community regarding house officers.
The secretary assured the delegation that 199 seats of house officers would be restored within next 2-3 days. However YDA has decided to continue protest till issuance of notification regarding restoration of 199 seats of house officers.
