PU hostel raid: IJT students protest, block traffic

The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) protested against the police raid at a hostel of the Punjab University here in Lahore on Monday.
Members of the IJT snatched the keys of several buses and cars leaving their passengers stranded on Canal Road, Multan Road and Band Road for over three hours. Buses were also used to block traffic on these roads. The actions of the IJT members brought parts of the provincial capital to a standstill.
Earlier on wee hours of Monday, police arrested 12 students and recovered drugs during the raid at hostel no.16 of the Punjab University.
Police claimed to have recovered several bottles of liquor, drugs and several rounds of pistols.
IJT PU spokesman said that the patience of the students should not be put on test. He urged the authorities to immediately release the arrested students.
The spokesman warned that the Punjab government would have to face the harsh consequences of such actions.
The IJT is the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
