Food outlets to get medical certificate from four hospitals

LAHORE - With the purpose to minimize chances of utilization of bogus certificates for getting licenses, District Quality Control Board has made it compulsory for the food outlets to carryout medical examination of all food handlers from four government hospitals, officials informed The Nation on Friday. Earlier, the food outlets could obtain medical certificates for food handlers from private clinics for the purpose of getting licenses. The past practice had given birth to complaints of issuance of bogus certificates for medically unfit employees. To check this practice and to ensure that certificates were issued only to medically fit employees, the DQCB has bound the food outlets to get their food handlers examined from four hospitals namely Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, General Hospital and Mian Munshi Hospital. While chairing a meeting of DQCB here on Friday, District Coordination Officer and Chairman DQCB Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta has directed the officials to implement the system of imposing fine to the food outlets violating the food bylaws by issuing tickets. He directed the officials to finalise a schedule for the proper implementation the ticketing system. DQCB has also decided that medical superintendents and deputy medical superintendents of city district governments hospitals would also act as part time food inspectors to give a boost to the CDG food squad. DQCB was reorganized about a month back to ensure implementation on pure food rules 2007.
