Ghotki: 5 drown as jeep plunges into canal

GHOTKI  - At least five persons drowned when a jeep plunged into canal near Ghotki on Wednesday.
According to police sources, a jeep heading towards Jahanpur from Ghotki met with an accident due to over speeding and fell into Qazi Wah Canal. As a result, six persons drowned in the canal. Rescue teams recovered five bodies while the remaining sixth man was rescued and shifted to hospital for treatment.
Staff reporter from Khairpur adds: Shah Abdul Latif University, in collaboration with Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy and Inter University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities organised a day-long Peace & Harmony Festival. SALU Khairpur Vice Chancellor Prof Parveen Shah in her address said that the idea of the peace festival is need of the hour, considering the depressed scenario of the region, nation and overall situation of the world. “I believe, it will provide a forum of Pakistan’s leading statesmen, parliamentarians, religious leaders, scholars, social workers, youth and service leaders to take efforts to strengthen the youth and peace,” she said adding that the forum will also provide an opportunity to promote the concept of reconciliation, harmonious co-existence and cooperation among the people of the region and country.
