LAHORE - Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has directed all the concerned departments to gear up dengue control activities in accordance with the laid SOPs during the monsoon.
Chairing a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Dengue Control at Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday, Rafiq directed focusing indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance especially in the graveyards, junkyards and construction sites for removing breeding of mosquitoes.
MNA Shahista Pervaiz Malik, MPA Pir Ashraf, Secretary Health Dr Ijaz Munir, Secretary Local Government Jawad Rafiq Malik, DG Health Dr Zahid Pervaiz, DCO Lahore Cap (R) Usman, Dean IPH Prof Moaz Ahmad, Incharge Chief Minister Dengue Research Cell Dr Wasim Akram, Additional Director General Health(VBD) Dr Islam Zafar, EDOs Health Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Sheikhupura, officers of schools education, higher and education and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
Kh Salman Rafiq took notice of the absence of representatives of different departments and directed to issue displeasure letters to the heads of such departments.
Dr Islam Zafar presented report regarding the dengue situation in the province. He informed that so far seven confirmed dengue patients have been reported in the Punjab. He briefed about the dengue surveillance and larvaeciding activities in the province especially in the dengue sensitive districts i.e. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura and Faisalabad.
Dr Ijaz Munir informed the meeting that instructions have been passed to all public sector hospitals to finalize diagnostic and treatment arrangements for dengue patients according to the SOPs.
 He said that the hospitals have also been directed to make high dependency units functional. Moreover, the District Health Departments have been asked to check their instruments, spray machines, foggers and stock sufficient medicines for spray and fogging.
DG Health informed that training has been imparted to the doctors of DHQs and THQs hospitals regarding case management of dengue patients. He informed that sufficient quantity of Temiphos and Deltamethine was available in the stock.
