LAHORE: Four Day Asian Pacific Psychiatric Conference was inaugurated on Friday highlighted problems relating to mental health keeping young psychiatrists abreast with latest developments in the field.
The organising committee said that experts from different countries would deliver lectures during four days proceedings. Dr Afzal Javed, Prof Normanm Modat Rana and Dr Nasir Saeed addressed the press conference. They said that hypertension was on the rise in Pakistan due to price hike, deteriorating law and order situation and drone attacks. They said that 8-10 per cent Pakistanis were hypertensive and their numbers were increasing rapidly. They said that 450 to 500 psychiatrists were insufficient to cater the requirements of such a huge number of people. They said that hypertension would become leading disease in Pakistan by 2020.–Staff Reporter
