Four more people Friday reported to have lost their life to dengue in Sindh and Punjab.
Thirty-year-old Ibrahim, a resident of Mozang, died in Lahore while Abdul Rauf, 58, and Ahmed Saleem, 27 died in Rawalpindi, bringing the death toll to eight in the province. Moreover, 59 dengue patients were hospitalised in Punjab, taking the number of confirmed cases to 974.
Out of 59 new cases, 36 were reported from Lahore, 21 from Rawalpindi and one each from Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Minister Health Khalil Tahir Sandhu confirmed: “Seven persons died of dengue in the province. We are carrying out investigation to find reason for three deaths.”
Separately, the Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell confirmed another dengue death, taking toll to 22 in the province. The deceased was a 26-year- old woman from Kala Board Malir in Karachi.
Five new cases – three in Karachi – have been reported during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 3,730, according to the cell. Dengue has been on killing spree in Sindh.
In Punjab that fought well in the previous attack of the disease, the government claims to have stepped up efforts to cope with emergency. The situation in terrorism-hit KPK is not much better.
Special squad out
Special anti-dengue squads of Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab on Friday inspected 293 places in all towns of the city and registered eight FIRs and issued 19 notices after detecting larvae and for not adopting safety measures regarding dengue.
Nine anti-dengue squads removed dozens of potential breeding sources. The team detected larvae in the premises of Kasmiri Marble Workshop, Makah Colony.
Similarly, other anti-dengue squads inspected various places and registered eight FIRs against Almadina Milk Shop, Mian Plastic Bottle Warehouse Shahdara, Zain Plastic Traders Shahdara, Data plastic Factory Shahdara, Mashallah Plastic Trades Shahdara, Farooq and Plastic Company Misri Shah, and Zaroon Khan Scrapyard Shah Kamal Road.
Talking to the media, Secretary Environment Anwar Rasheed said that government was asking the people to clear their places from dengue larvae. Government departments have to take strict measures and FIRs while are being registered.
