LAHORE - A large number of the PTI workers on Monday staged a protest in front of the Governor House, expressing solidarity with Azadi March protesters who have been staging a sit-in outside the Parliament House in Islamabad for the last eighteen days.
The protest was led by PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Abdul Aleem Khan, Nosheen Hamid and others. On the occasion, the protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with the demand of resignations of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Addressing on the occasion, the PTI leaders said Nawaz Sharif and his cronies had used their cruelty against the innocent protesters in Islamabad. They said Nawaz Sharif’s Gullu Butts had broken all the previous records of violence. They said the PML-N could not save the government through these tactics.
Dr Yasmin Rashid said the PTI condemned the violence. The bloodshed of the martyrs of Islamabad and Model Town would not go waste, she said adding that the protesters had been staging peaceful sit-in but the rulers had crossed all limits with their torment in Islamabad.
Andleeb Abbas, MPA Shanila Rout, MPA Nabila Hakim Ali, Aleem Khan, Hamid Zaman, Karamat Ali Khokhar, Khalid Mehmood Gujjar, Zaheer Abbas Khokhar and others also addressed on the occasion.
The protesters were also having effigy of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi. They beat the effigy with sticks and shoes, and chanted slogans against Hashmi. Heavy police contingents were present on the occasion for guarding the Governor House.
Meanwhile, the PTI workers staged a sit-in at Liberty Roundabout and Lalak Jan Chowk, DHA wherein a large number of male and female workers were present. The participants were chanting slogans against the PML-N government for using power against Azadi marchers. The protesters said they would not end up their protest till the end of the incumbent rule.
71 PTI workers sent to jail
An Anti Terrorism Court on Monday sent 71 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf to jail on judicial remand, accused of encountering with police during protests in the provincial metropolis.
The PTI workers held demonstrations at different points of the City to condemn police torture on party workers in Islamabad.
Garden Town police arrested the workers and booked them under anti terrorism law.
Presiding Judge Khalid Mahmood Ranjha sent all 71 arrested workers on judicial remand and directed the police to submit challan of the case.
