LAHORE - Government has evolved a comprehensive strategy for providing alternative residential facilities, job opportunities and other basic necessities of life to the people affected due to construction of the Diamir Bhasha Dam.
Addressing the residents of Thore Colony adjacent to Diamir Bhasha Dam on Tuesday Hamza Shahbaz said the reservoir was the backbone of national economy.
Earlier on the direction of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, members of the committee constituted for Diamir Bhasha Dam led by MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif visited the site of proposed dam and adjacent residential colony. Chairman Wapda Syed Raghib Abbas Shah and Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Younas Dhagha gave detailed briefings to Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and members of the committee Ch Saud Majeed, Ata Tarar and Malik Hassan Iqbal about the project.
Hamza said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had issued clear cut instructions to all concerned departments for ensuring timely construction of Diamir Bhasha Dam. He said government of Pakistan considering the project vital for the development and prosperity of the country would spare no effort in its completion. He said completion of the dam would change the destiny of the country and its people. Hamza said government had evolved a comprehensive strategy for providing alternative residential facilities, job opportunities and other basic necessities of life for the people affected due to construction of the dam. He disclosed that three model villages would be constructed in the area where schools, hospitals and job opportunities would be provided to the residents. He said timely completion of all schemes to be launched for the welfare of the affectees would be ensured.
Hamza assured the local people that their genuine demands with regard to alternative residences and rehabilitation would be fulfilled. He said construction of dam would usher in development and prosperity of the country. He said Prime Minister Sharif was working round the clock for resolving all problems including energy crisis being faced by the country. Shahbaz said people had complete confidence in the sincere and untiring efforts of PML-N leadership. He said the day is not far off when Pakistan would make rapid progress.
