LAHORE: Lahore High Court Wednesday issued notice to Provincial Auqaf Department on a petition seeking implementation of Evacuee Trust Property Board’s orders.
Zahida Perveen, a local resident, had filed the petition through his counsel Advocate Ch Shoaib Saleem submitting that Evacuee Trust Property Board had admitted her plea seeking ownership of a property. The petitioner said the board announced verdict in her favor in 2011 but unfortunately, there was no mechanism to get the order of the board implemented. Since 2011, the order was not implemented which deprived her of basic right. The petitioner’s counsel requested the court to direct the government to get the orders of the Evacuee Property Trust Board, a sub-department of Auqaf department, implemented.
After hearing the initial arguments, Justice Aminudin issued notice to the Punjab government and sough reply within one week.–Staff Reporter
Suspension of 50 licences recommended
LAHORE: Following the directives of National Highways and Motorway Police IG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, Central Zone have recommended the suspension of 50 driving licence on the grounds that their owners committed repeated traffic rules and violations
DIG NH&MP Zubair Ahmad Hashmi said this while directing the field officer at zonal office in Lahore on Wednesday. Hashmi said repeated violations of traffic rules would result in cancellation of driving licence. He said if anyone violates the road rules more repeatedly, his driving licence will be suspended and if he continues to violate after that, then the driving licence will be cancelled.
The DIG said that every road user should follow the law in letter and spirit. He said prime responsibility of motorway police is to provide safe and secure roads to the people.–PR
Laptops distributed to BU students
ISLAMABAD: The ceremony of Prime Minister's National Laptop Scheme was conducted by Bahria University with the collaboration of Higher Education Commission (HEC) wherein about 300 laptops were distributed to the students of postgraduate programmes. This scheme has been initiated by the federal government to help enhance the access to information technology. The laptops are being awarded to students studying in public sector higher education institutes across the country as part of the Prime Minister's youth programme for FY-2013-14.
About 140 students of BU have successfully received the laptops and Evo devices and in Wednesday's ceremony about 300 more laptops distributed to the remaining students of postgraduate programmes.
While speaking to the audience, Rector BU Vice Admiral (Retd) Shahid Iqbal, HI(M), congratulated the HEC and the government of Pakistan for the successful execution of the scheme and also to the students who have come up to criteria for award. He said that it was students' duty now to use this laptop for the desired reason and utilise their skills and help Pakistan prosper in every field. .–Staff Reporter
Polio vaccination timings in Capital
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and Polyclinic Hospital have changed timings for polio vaccination for international travellers due to Ramazan. The polio vaccination centre at Pims will remain operative in the evening from 8:30pm to 10:30pm while at Polyclinic it will be functional between 08:00pm to 10:00pm.
Prof Javed Akram, vice chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, PIMS, said the current move was aimed in respect of Ramazan, besides facilitating the people having fasts. "The people have submitted a large number of complaints with my office that they are unable to take polio drops in the day timings because of fasting," he said.–Staff Reporter
Prof Akram told the media during the inspection of polio vaccination counter at the courtesy centre of the hospital, "All our counters and relevant staff along with the concerned head of the polio vaccination centre will be present to issue polio vaccination cards to passengers intending to travel abroad."
During the inspection of the polio vaccination centre, in-charge centre Dr Muthair Shah briefing Prof Javed said that over 20,000 people who intended to travel abroad were vaccinated against the polio at the university hospital - PIMS. Dr Shah also maintained that since the inception smooth polio vaccination has been provided to all the intended international passengers.
Meanwhile, speaking with media persons at the IDP's centre established for the IDPs of Waziristan, Prof Javed said that two mobile hospitals have already been dispatched to Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will remain functional till the completion of the Army's ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb.
"Our mobile hospital units will be handed over to the Pakistan Army and these mobile hospitals having a laboratory, an X-ray machine and operation theatre will remain under the usage of the Army to provide medical relief assistance to the IDPs of the Waziristan," he said in his brief media statement.
He maintained that SZAB Medical University, PIMS, doctors physicians and other paramedical staff would also visit these IDP camps and provide assistance to the IDPs of Waziristan during the ongoing military operation.
