LAHORE: Daily Zamindar’s 111th anniversary was celebrated on Monday under the auspices of Literary Society at Cosmopolitan Club of Bagh-e-Jinnah.
Shahid Ali Khan, nephew of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan and grandson of Sirajuddin Ahmad Khan was the chief guest. He told the participants that journalism had been converted from a mission to a profession; however, our forefathers who had opted fair and true journalism would ever be admired in the history. “Zamindar was famous for its staunch stand on Independence Movement as well as for the promotion of journalism, culture, politics and literary activities,” he added. Later, Raja Asad Ali Khan, Secretary of Maulana ZAK Trust, told the audience that Zamindar was a widely circulated newspaper which was most influential and popular among readers of all walks of life so the then British Government was frightened from Zamindar resultantly the dictatorial British government tried its level best to curb it. Zamindar’s Press and property was confiscated many times and heavy penalty was also imposed, he added. “Moreover, the then Editor Maulana Zafar Ali Khan faced atrocities of the government and he had to go behind the bars for 14 years. However, despite all that, Zamindar persisted in accomplishing its mission,” Raja added. –Staff Reporter
Salman Abid, president of the Club and a known journalist also informed the audience that Maulana Zafar Ali Khan and Zamindar’s journalism is a role model for those who have recently stepped into journalism.
At the end, Literary Society Cosmopolitan Club Secretary Tabassum Gilani thanked Maulana ZAK Trust and Al-fajar Time for organising the ceremony. Muhammad Ali Chiragh, Research Officer Maulana ZAK Trust, Kaleem Ahmad, Rana Tariq, Taseer Mustafa, Professor Ejaz Arshad, Arshad Nasim Butt, lqra Shahid, Amjad Warraich, Sadaqat Sheikh, Qaisar Sultan and a large number of participated in the ceremony. Akmal Awaisi hosted the ceremony. Shahid Ali Khan, Editor ‘Alhamra’ cut the cake in the end.
PU approves 27 PhD synopses
LAHORE: A meeting of Punjab University Advanced Studies and Research Board (AS&RB) was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran here on Monday which approved 27 PhD synopses, 25 evaluation reports, 12 panels of examiners, 7 extension cases and 6 miscellaneous cases.

Wireless communication with Lady Willingdon
LAHORE: King Edward Medical University has decided to install a wireless tower for improving communication with Lady Willingdon Hospital. KEMU will bear the cost of installation while Lady Willingdon Hospital will manage maintenance and security of tower.
KEMU has introduced hospital management system and e-library and for this purpose installation of wireless tower was necessary.–Staff Reporter

LAHORE: A seminar on Quaid-i-Azam’s June 3, 1947 speech is being held at the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust on Tuesday (today). The speakers include Dr Rafique Ahmad, Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain Sial, former Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal, Begum Bushra Rehman, Begum Surayya Khursheed, Dr MA Sufi and Ahmer Bilal Sufi.
