Rapist, housed in Camp Jail, dies at Services Hospital

LAHORE A 35-year-old Camp Jail inmate, accused of raping an 11-year-old girl, died at the Services Hospital on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Riaz, was a resident of the Citys Islampura area. Police said Riazs health condition deteriorated on Sunday and the jail officials decided to shift him to the Services Hospital. The Shadman police shifted the body to city morgue for autopsy. Meawhile, two persons died while another sustained multiple injuries in a road traffic accident in Ghalib Market police area on Sunday. Police investigators said the deceased were identified as Waheed Arshad (23) and Muhammad Afzal (22), while the injured one as Imtiaz Saleem. They said Waheed Arshad, a resident of Okara and a student of Government Degree College Gulberg, was crossing Main Boulevard, when a speeding motorbike hit him. Resultantly, Waheed and two motorcyclists Afzal and Imtiaz sustained serious injuries. They were shifted to a nearby hospital, where Waheed and Afzal succumbed to their injuries while the condition of Imtiaz was told out of danger. Later, the bodies were handed over to the bereaved families after police completed necessary medico-legal formalities. POLICE Speech-contest: Taking first step of imparting moral education among the policemen, Civil Lines police Division SP Operations Omer Saeed Malik chaired a special speech-contest ceremony in Qilla Gujjar Singh police lines on Sunday. Around 16 male and female police ranking from constable to sub-inspector participated in the contest, whereas ASP Women Police Station Riffat Haider, DSP Tariq Sukhera, DSP Aftab Phulrwan and DSP Khalid Mateen hosted the ceremony. Giving arguments on Shahadat hai Matloob-0-Momin, Na Maal-e-Ghanimat Na Kishwar Kushai, the speakers said to be called and remembered as martyred was the sole noble obligation of police officer. After listening to the arguments of all the speakers, the Panel of Judges announced first position for a constable Ali Irfan, second to Additional SHO Sub-Inspector Civil Lines Imran Yousuf, while constable Khawar Naseer secured third position. The panel, however, awarded to a lady constable Sanjeeda Sarwar an encouragement prize. Speaking on this occasion, the SP said such contests were necessary for the policemen in order to expedite their moral and professional skills. Valuables reduceD to ashes: Valuables worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes, when fire broke out in three shops in Nishtar Colony police area on Sunday. According to Rescue-1122, fire broke out owing to a short circuiting which engulfed the nearby shops in few moments. Locals informed the Rescue 1122 officials, who rushed the spot and extinguished fire after hectic efforts. No injury was reported in the said incident. PHP reunites five: Punjab Highway Patrol claimed to have reunited five lost people including four children and one abnormal person with their families and recovered liquor and stolen wood during routine patrolling on Sunday. According to an official handout, PHP teams found Ahmad Nawaz, 05, Muhammad Jameel, 06 and Muhammad Kafeel, 08 and reunited them to their families. PHP Lilla Morr team also found an old abnormal man, 75, walking along the road and reunited him to his son Muhammad Afzal. Yet in another incident, PHP team Sialkot found a lost child namely Zain near Uggoky and shifted him to the Child Protection Bureau, Sialkot.
