LAHORE - A bevy of nurses on Wednesday badly thrashed the aged driver of the Chairman of CMs Task Force on Spurious Drugs Dr Saeed Elahi, and torn apart his clothes besides seriously injuring him at a nursing college at Birdwood Road near Jail Road. The driver namely Muhammad Ali (59), who was to take back the registration papers of 1300 CC Toyota Corolla under unauthorised use of Acting DG Nursing Nargis Butt, was attacked by over 30 nurses with sandals and slippers at the behest of the Acting DG Nursing. He was badly hurt, but managed to escape with the help of his other colleague, who later shifted him to a hospital for treatment. An eyewitness said that a nurse namely Mumtaz was leading the nurses, who attacked the driver. Insiders revealed that the Acting DG Nursing was furious over the decision of the Health Department of retrieving the said car from her. She had two cars in her use - one was Suzuki and - second 1300 CC Corolla. The story of this car is a bit interesting. She had kept the Corolla car hidden from the eyes of the Health Department for two years. Purchased in 2007, the car was not registered by Nargis Butt until the mid of 2009, officials of the Health Department said and added when the car was got registered she removed the green number plates and put some private number only to keep it for the use of her family. The officials of the CMs Task Force on Spurious Drugs, in fact, took up the issue of the unauthorised use of the car by Nargis Butt, they informed, alleging that she in turn had taken revenge by thrashing the driver of Dr Saeed Elahi. Sources said the Health Department retried the car from her custody Monday and on Wednesday driver Muhammad Ali accompanied with Rana Altaf visited the nursing college to collect the registration papers of the same car. As soon as Dr Saeed Ealhis driver reached there he was surrounded by nurses, who were ready to teach a lesson for snatching car from their teacher, who had dual charge of Principal of the Nursing College and DG Nursing. The sources said the position of DG Nursing was vacant and Nargis Butt was having additional charge of DG Nursing. They further said that the Health Department had given a 6 Cylinder Land Crusher for the office DG Nursing, but it could not be used until a person was appointed against this seat. Nargis Butt is, basically, principal of the college and was given additional charge, they maintained. After taking treatment from the hospital Muhammad Ali driver appeared before Secretary Health Punjab Anwar Ahmad Khan to narrate the tale of his misery. He told the Secretary that he had been asked to visit the nursing college to take papers of the car from Nargis Butt. He said the car had already been taken from her on the directions of the Health Department. He further told the Secretary that he was subjected to torture in the college. Seeing the condition of the driver, the Secretary Health has directed the Director General Health to conduct departmental inquiry of the whole the matter, and take action against the nursing college principal/Acting DG Nursing.
