Woman dies of doctors 'negligence' at Jinnah Hospital

LAHORE - A 50-year-old female patient died due to allegedly negligence of the doctors at Jinnah Hospital on Friday. The hospital administration suspended two doctors and a staff nurse on the complaint of the victim womans son Abbas Bhukhari and constituted a team of four senior doctors being headed by Prof Dr Arif Qayyum to probe the incident. Abbas in his application complained that he brought his mother Saeeda Bhukari suffering from diabetes and blood pressure at the hospital. She was shifted to the Medical-II where doctors started treatment. He said that his mothers health started improving in the start when Professor Dr Javed Akram, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College, examined her properly. Abbas alleged that when Dr Javed went back to his office, Medical-II doctors administered his mother an injection, which caused her instant death. He further alleged that his mother died due to wrong injection administered her without consent of any senior doctor. The victim womans family however refused to perform postmortem of the deceased woman offered by Dr Javed. The relatives of deceased woman also registered protest against the rough attitude of the doctors. Talking to his scribe, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Dr Javed said he had issued suspension orders of a staff nurse Amanual, two doctors Dr Rizwan Fahim and Dr Abubaker. He said that according to preliminary investigations, blood pressure of the victim woman dropped to dangerous level as she was also suffering from chronic blood sugar. Dr Javed said he himself had medically examined the woman patient twice. He said that on the request of the womans son Abbas, he asked the on-duty doctors to shift her to a private room after feeling her health better. In the meanwhile, the woman died after a staff nurse administered her injection before shifting her to the private room. Dr Javed said an inquiry committee comprising Prof Arif Qayyum, Prof Zubair Akram, Dr Hafiz Ijaz and Dr Raja Talat has been constituted to probe into the incident. He said that he offered the victim family for the postmortem of the victim woman to ascertain actual cause of death from the doctors of their own choice, but it flatly refused. Murtaza Amin appointed as chairman PHF The Punjab government on Friday appointed MNA Sahibzada Syed Murtaza Amin as Chairman Punjab Health Foundation (PHF) with immediate effect. The provincial Health Department has issued a notification in this regard.
