LAHORE - Defence analyst Lieutenant General (r) Zulfiqar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that a leadership brimming with great willpower and courage is required to frustrate and defeat the manoeuvrings of India.
Addressing a special sitting chaired by The Nation Editor-in-Chief Dr Majid Nizami at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan, Khan paid a glowing tribute to the founder of Pakistan, saying by dint of his will power, Quaid-e-Azam managed to score a brilliant victory over his indomitable adversaries – the Hindus and the British. Similarly, he added, taking a lesson from our great heroes and demonstrating perseverance, the present-day political leaders could lead the country towards growth and progress.
The subject of sitting was “The Ulterior Motives of India and How to Forestall Them” and was jointly organised by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and Pakistan Movement Workers Trust. The deliberative assembly was attended by Professor Dr Rafique Ahmad, Begm Surayya Khursheed, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Ch Naeem Hussain Chattha, Pir Ejaz Hashmi and NPT Secretary Shahid Rasheed. Students from Superior University Lahore and a large number of people from all departments of life also attended the sitting.
Lt-Gen (r) Zulfiqar Ali Khan, who is also on the Board of Governors of the NPT, further elaborated his ideas by adding that India’s every move was meeting success because it has developed a consensus on every level, be it the political leaders, the armed forces, the academicians, the establishment or the media.
“We could also get rid of our problems by transforming the crowd (that we still are) into a compact nation. Showing any kind of weakness or fragility could prove fatal,” said Khan. He added that we had better freeze our relationship with India for a specified period of time, say, for five years and try to improve our economic, political and social condition during this period. Then we could negotiate with India from a position of equality and defeat its nefarious designs of reducing Pakistan to the humiliating status of a subservient state. A session for questions and answers was held at the end.
