Status of varsity to Queen Mary College soon


LAHORE – Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said on Wednesday that the government was completing necessary formalities for granting a status of university to Queen Mary College.
Replying to a query during question hour on Higher Education Department at the Punjab Assembly floor on Wednesday, he said that Board of Governors has been formed which was a significant step toward granting university status to prominent old educational institution for girls. PA session started one hour and 10 minutes behind the scheduled time with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman hoped that the college would be granted university status during the next year after completing all the requirements. To another question, he said that the government has devised the criterion for giving charter to private universities and institutes in consultation with the Higher Education Commission. He said that the government has also constituted an accreditation committee which will follow the set criterion for giving charter to private universities.
