PPP observes Black Day today

LAHORE – The Pakistan People’s Party will observe black day on July 5 (today) to denounce the military coup staged by General Zia-Ul-Haq on the said day against the elected government of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. General Ziaul Haq had on July 5, 1977, overthrown the Bhutto government on the pretext of massive rigging in general elections followed by a movement launched by the PNA, a religious alliance comprising nine big and small parties.  The PPP has organised seminars and special programmes to be held in different cities to mark the day. The party would also remember the services of its leaders and workers during the dictatorial rule of General Ziaul Haq. Party cadres at the provincial and district levels have been asked to organise ceremonies, seminars and other activities to condemn army’s intervention in political matters and dismissal of elected governments. Party workers have also been directed to highlight in their speeches the wrong policies of General Zia and their repercussions the country is still facing. The PPP believes that General Zia had introduced the Kalashnikovs and drug culture in the country to crush the PPP leadership. In Lahore, the PPP’s Punjab and Lahore chapters have jointly organised a seminar in connection with the day.
