LAHORE-The Punjab Assembly in its special sitting on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution supporting ongoing freedom struggle of Kashmiri people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. "The House demands that plebiscite should be held in occupied Kashmir in the light of UN resolutions, while acknowledging the right to self-determination of Kashmiris," stated the resolution jointly moved in the House by Law Minister Rana Sanaulla, Senior Minister Raja Riaz, Opposition Leader Ch Zaheeruddin, parliamentary party head of JUI, Ali Haider Noor Niazi and head of parliamentary party of PML-F, Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mahmood. The Assembly urged the international community to exert pressure on India to halt atrocities on Kashmiris, especially on women, children and elderly people by pulling out its forces from the troubled valley to ensure establishment of peace in the region. The House also appealed to the federal government to reiterate its political, moral and diplomatic support for the Kashmiris at the world level, besides making visible efforts in this regard. "The House is of considered opinion that freedom of Kashmir was an established fact and no world power could deny it. This is the reason that 61 years of Indian oppression and massacre of hundreds of Kashmiris, could not suppress this movement", the resolution said. The entire Pakistani nation will stand shoulder to shoulder with its Kashmiri brethren until they achieve their birth right of self-determination, the resolution concluded. During discussion on the resolution, many legislators expressed solidarity with Kashmiris and urged early settlement of the dispute. Later, after the session, all legislators led by Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal gathered outside Punjab Assembly building and raised slogans in support of freedom struggle in Kashmir.
