CM orders solid steps for solid waste management

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said provision of healthy environment to the people and removing garbage from the cities is one of the priorities of his government and solid steps are being taken for this purpose. He said he wanted to see Lahore neat and clean like Istanbul and an agreement had also been made with a Turkish company for this. He was addressing a meeting of Solid Waste Management here on Monday. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Commissioner and DCO Lahore as well as officers concerned were present in the meeting. MD Solid Waste Management informed the meeting about the short and long term steps with regard to removing garbage from the city. Addressing the meeting, the CM said provision of clean environment to the people was of great importance and a comprehensive strategy ha been evolved for removing the garbage from big cities of the province including Lahore. He said planning should also be made for generating energy from waste. Appreciating the briefing given by MD SWM, the CM said the steps being taken for the removal of garbage from Lahore city would yield positive results. Earlier, MD SWM Waseem Ajmal gave a detailed briefing with regard to removal of garbage from the provincial metropolis. He informed that special steps had been taken for redressing the complaints of citizens and a Computerized Complaint Redressal System has been set up for this purpose. A special helpline 1139 has been established and the complaints of the people are being redressed immediately, he added.
