LAHORE - Member British House of Lord, Nazir Ahmed has said that neither NATO nor the British government was supporting the US drone attacks in the Pakistani territory. He was speaking at The Nation Forum here on Thursday. The US is carrying out drone attacks is violation of sovereignty of Pakistan. It is purely the US issue. Neither the British government nor the NATO is supporting these drone attacks, Lord Nazir Ahmed said, adding, the continuous drone attacks were increasing hatred against the US and armed forces of the country. Referring to the unrest and growing incidents of terrorism in Pakistan, Lord Nazir Ahmed said the overseas Pakistanis were concerned over the prevailing situation back in Pakistan. Holding Pervaiz Musharraf responsible for prevailing situation in Pakistan, he said that everything was smooth in 1999 when the dictator overthrew the elected government and took over the reigns of the country. There was no terrorism, Taliban, security concerns or economic crises before Musharraf.. Pakistan has paid a huge price in the ongoing war on terror. Civilians attacked Pakistan army personnel for the first time during Musharraf regime. Musharraf took u-turn on Kashmir policy on the instigation of the US against the interests of the country. The country is facing big internal and external challenges and proper measures should be taken on the part of the rulers, he said, adding, the British Pakistanis were with the country in this hour of distress. Lord Nazir Ahmed urged the government to give incentives to the business community and encourage overseas Pakistanis for investment in different sectors to revive economy. In the wake of serious electricity crises, there is a dire need of looking for alternative energy sources, including solar and wind. There is huge potential of hydel power generation in Kashmir and Northern Areas, he said, adding that more investment was needed in energy sector to overcome electricity crises. Stressing upon devising Kashmir policy with consensus, he said that all the political parties and the nation should make policy keeping in view the national interests and in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiris. He said that the US solution to the Kashmir issue was not acceptable. He said that the Kashmir issue could not be resolved through bilateral talks. He stressed upon third party mediation and involving Kashmiris in the talks for just solution to the Kashmir issue. Referring to the Pak-India relations, Lord Nazir Ahmed said all the issues should be resolved through dialogues to be carried out on equal basis.
